Alma D. Hornburg a former resident of Stevens Street passed away on Thursday January 1, 2004 at the Wellsville Manor Nursing Home. She was born August 31, 1908 in Wellsville to Edward E. and A. Belle Behrens Hornburg. She attended WellsvilleHigh School and in 1944 went to work for Worthington from where she retired from in 1973.Alma was a member of the Wellsville Christian and MissionaryAllianceChurch where she had served as treasurer and in her younger years taught the children Primary Sunday School Class. She is survived by a brother Glenn E.[Gladys]Hornburg of Wellsville and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents ; a sister Beulah Stryker and a brother Raymond T.J. Hornburg. Friends may call on Friday January 2, 2004 from 6-9pm in the J.W.Embser Sons F.H. in Wellsville where a funeral service will take place on Saturday at 11am with Rev. Michael Brady presiding. Oletha S. Reed, 88 formerly of 10 Whitney Avenue passed away on Thursday January 1, 2004 at the WellsvilleManorCareCenter.  She was born on September 15, 1915 in the town of Amity, the daughter of LaRue and Ruth (Nye) Sears. On May 29, 1941 in the town of Amity she married Harold A. Reed who predeceased her on September 29, 1999. Oletha was a former 58 year resident of Friendship, was a 1933 graduate of Belmont High School and a 1936 graduate of the Geneseo Normal School. She taught for 5 years in country schools including Hallsport, Petrolia, and Allentown and later substituted in the FriendshipSchool system.  She was a member of the United Church of Friendship where she was a dedicated Sunday school teacher.  She was a former and very active member of the Musical and Literary Club of Friendship, the Friendship Free Library Board of Trustees and the Mount Hope Cemetery Board. She was also a former member of the Christmas Tree Farmers Association of New York, the National Christmas Tree Growers Association and the Allegany County Home Bureau. She is survived by 1 son: Gordon (Sandra) Reed of Erie, PA, 1 daughter: Carole (Allen) Mohilewsky of Belmont, 1 grandson: Reed (Lisa) Mohilewsky of Kenmore, 1 granddaughter: Robin Mohilewsky of Las Angeles, CA, 1 great granddaughter: Anastasia Mohilewsky of Kenmore, several nieces, nephews, cousins and a sister in law; Clara Reed Lynch of East Aurora.  Friends are invited to call on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00pm at the J.W. Linda L. Creighton of 39 Willets Avenue passed away on Thursday January 1,2004 at JonesMemorialHospital. She was born on November 29,1945 to Milford “Bud” and Jenevieve Presutti Creighton who predeceased her. Linda was a graduate of BelmontCentralHigh School and worked for Alfred State College for over 30 years as a secretary of various departments retiring in 1998. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church and at one time was active in the Allegany County Democratic Party. Linda enjoyed antiqueing , gardening , crafts and loved animals. She is survived by a half brother Richard Creighton of Florida; several aunts , uncles, cousins , nieces and nephews as well as many friends. Friend are invited to call on Monday January 5 from 2-4 & 7-9pm in the J.W. Embser Sons F.H. in Belmont. A Prayer service will be held on Tuesday January 6 at 10:30am in the Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in St. Mary’s Church at 11am with Rev. John “Jack” Neugent, 82 of 1710 Alma Hill Road passed away on Wednesday January 7, 2004 at JonesMemorialHospital in Wellsville. He was born April 5, 1921 in Bolivar, the son of John and Rose (Nunn) Neugent. On November 13, 1947 in Wellsville he married Mary O’Leary, who survives. Jack was a 1937 graduate of BolivarHigh School and served with the U.S. Army in the European Theater of Operation during WW II. He was employed for many years at Worthington Corporation in Wellsville and was Superintendent when he retired in 1981. After retirement he taught a machinist class for Worthington at BOCES in Belmont for 2 years. He was a member of the Morrison-Hayes American Legion Post 702 in Wellsville and the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville. Surviving in addition to his wife Mary are 1 daughter, Nancy (Gary) Mattison of Wellsville, 1 son, Thomas (Catherine) Neugent of Wellsville, 7 Grandchildren, 6 Great Grandchildren, 4 sisters, Betty Chapel of Buffalo, Dorothy Rhoades of East Aurora, Lillian (Leslie) Robinson of Richburg and Barbara Neugent of New Jersey, and several nieces & nephews. Conrad F. Stark, formerly of 458 S. Main Street passed away on January 6, 2004 at the home of his son Paul in Olean,NY.  He was born on May 6, 1910 in Mount Vernon, NY the son of Frank and Katherine (Reich) Stark. On April 12, 1941 in St. Vincent DePaul’s Church in New York City he married Eunice Seabott who predeceased him on October 1, 1969. Conrad graduated from New YorkUniversity with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He served with the Merchant Marines from 1941 to 1945.  He was employed by Air Preheater from 1946 to 1968, at first in New York City then transferring to Wellsville in 1948. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Morrison Hayes Post 702 American Legion in Wellsville and a longtime member of the Wellsville Country Club.  He was an avid golfer, sports fan, and skilled woodworker.  He is survived by 3 sons: Paul (Bonnie) Stark of Olean, NY, Timothy Stark of Lowell, MA, Peter (Rose) Stark of Ashville, NY; 4 Grandchildren: Michael (Cheryl) Ligus of Rochester, NY, Carolyn Ligus of Rochester, NY, Paul Stark Jr. of Guilderland, NY, Andrew Stark of Virginia Beach, VA; and 4 great-grandchildren: Krystal, Alysia, Cory, and Brent Ligus of Rochester, NY.  MEGAN K. SCIOTTI 16 of 1 Noble Street died Thursday January 8, 2004 in the Town of Hinsdale as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born March 18, 1987 in Wellsville, the daughter of Donald P. and Rosemarie (Heller) Sciotti. Megan was a very active member of the junior class at GeneseeValleyHigh School and was a member of the Concert band, Marching band, jazz band and swim club. She was a member of the GospelFellowshipChurch in Belmont and was involved in youth activities at several churches in the Belmont and Angelica area. She is survived be her mother, Rosemarie Sciotti of Belmont, her father and stepmother, Don and Kathy Sciotti of Scio, a brother, Vincent Sciotti of Scio, a stepsister, June Deuell of Scio, a stepbrother, Noel Deuell of Buttnor, NC paternal grandmother, Mary Hope Sciotti of Hornell, several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. Clifford F. Winterhalter, 83 of 5051 State Route 244 passed away January 9, 2004 in his home. He was born on August 4, 1920 in Pittsburg,PA, the son of Fredrick and Pearl (Rogers) Winterhalter. On November 21, 1940 he married Marie Coleman who predeceased him. On May 18, 1996 in Belmont he married Doris C. Miller who survives. Clifford was a graduate of BelmontHigh School in 1938.  He was a veteran in the U.S. Navy serving from 1944 to 1946 in the Asiatic and Pacific Theater of Operation. He worked all his life in the family business, William Laidlaw Inc. in Belmont retiring in 1985. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Belmont, a 59 year life member and past Commander of the Herbert DeLong post 808 American Legion in Belmont, member and past Chef De Gare of the Allegany County 40 & 8. He was also a life member and past Chief of the Belmont Fire Department where he had served for 62 years and was an avid bowler at Community Lanes in Belmont. In addition to his wife Doris, he is survived by 2 daughters: Lynn (Robert) Manning of Belmont, Sue (Thomas) Underwood of Corfu, NY; 4 stepdaughters: Bev (George) Krach of Baltimore, MD, Alice Meyers of Andover,  Betty (James) Deck of Wellsville, and Diane Rosati of Bolivar; 3 granddaughters: Erin Manning and Kayla and Leah Underwood; 11 step grandchildren, 23 step great grandchildren, and 1 step great - great grandson; 2 brothers: Ernest (Pat) Winterhalter and John (Helen) Winterhalter of Belmont; 3 sisters: Doris Dunbar of Rochester, Estelle (Richard) Saunders of Hamburg, and Enid Sweet of West Seneca; and several nieces and nephews. PHYLLIS M. DICKERSON 75 of 38 N. Highland Avenue passed away on Saturday January 10, 2004 at JonesMemorialHospital in Wellsville. She was born February 29, 1928 in Alma the daughter of Lawrence “Clyde” and Iva (Messler) Shields. On September 7, 1946 in Alma she married Orville T. Dickerson who predeceased her on August 12, 1984. Phyllis was a long time resident of Alma and had attended school in Alma and Wellsville. She and her husband owned & operated the Alma Store in the 50’s and she was the first female bus driver forWellsvilleCentralSchool from 1957 to 1982. She also operated Phyllis’s House of Ceramics in Alma, taught cake decorating and candy making at BOCES in Belmont and was known for making specialty cakes. She was a very active member of the AlmaUnitedMethodistChurch and was instrumental in keeping the church open. She was a member of the Jones Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and was a wonderful mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by her family. She is survived by 6 children, Sally (David) Plants of Kittanning, PA, Sue (Glenn Clark) Winicki of Cuba, Steve (Karen) Dickerson Sr. of Alma, Sherry (Bill Sr.) Day of Wellsville, Sabra (Kurt) McCarty of Davenport, FL. and Sylvia (Steve) LaChance of Wellsville, 17 grandchildren. 17 great grandchildren, 5 brothers, Lawrence (Dorothy) Shields of Bradford, PA, Francis (Marge) Shields of Portville, Richard (Joyce) Shields of Bolivar, James (Bobbie) Shields of Alma and Robert (Nell) Shields of Alma as well as several nieces & nephews. ONNOLEE M.  STARR, 94 formerly of 2369 Stannards Road passed away on January 11, 2004 at the WellsvilleManorCareCenter.  She was born on August 26, 1909 in Belmont, the daughter of George W. and Sara (Van Ness) Davidson.  On November 16, 1935 at 2369 Stannards Road in Wellsville she married Carlos Starr, who survives.   She grew up in and around Klipnockee, Arkport, and Hornell before moving to Wellsville in 1935.  She was employed as a seamstress by several factories, including Merril Hosiery and Kaiser Glove.  She was also a member of the StannardsUnitedMethodistChurch. In addition to her husband Carlos, she is survived by her daughter Beverly (Charles) Raynor of Wellsville; 1 brother: Warren (Anna) Davidson of Wellsville; 2 grandsons: Charles Raynor II and Lawrence (Patricia) Raynor both of Elmhurst, NY; 1 step granddaughter: Maryann Raynor Maloney of Daytona, FL.; 1 great granddaughter: Rebecca P. ROBERT C. HAYES, 83, of 79 Early Street passed away Saturday, January 24, 2004 at JonesMemorialHospital.  He was born on June 6, 1920 in Wellsville, the son of Edmond “Mike” and Helen (Leggitt) Hayes.  Robert was a life long resident of Wellsville. He served in the US Marine Corps in the European Theater of Operation from 1941 to 1945 on the heavy cruiser the USS Tuscalusa.  He was a self employed contractor and a member of the Lynch Burkett Post 397 of the American Legion in Andover. He is survived by a special friend: Mary O’Donnell of Wellsville and her family: Jean and Mickey Baker of Wellsville, Pat O’Donnell of Andover, and their families. Mae Lauzze, 99 of 96 East Pearl Street passed away on January 25, 2004 at WellsvilleHighlandHealthcareCenter. She was born on October 24, 1904 in Bradford,PA the daughter of Joseph and Angelina (Gillotte) Cardamone.  On September 1, 1919 she married Anthony Lauzze, Sr. who predeceased her on April 13, 1960. Mae was a former resident of Bradford, PA where she attended St. Bernard’s School and was a probe student at   BradfordHospital. She was employed as a general and private duty nurse for 65 years.  She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church and Altar & Rosary Society, a member of the Buffalo Red Cross Motor Corps and was Chairman of the Allegany County Nurses Association Blood Bank Program.  She was a member of the Red Cross Board of Directors for 24 years, a Charter Member and Graduate Regent of the Women of the Moose, a member of the Wellsville Country Club and the Jones Memorial Auxiliary, Evergreen Twig.  Mae is survived by 1 daughter: Marion “Toots” Van Skiver of Wellsville, 1 son: Anthony V. (Mary) Lauzze, Jr. of Myrtle Beach, SC, 7 grandchildren: Tom (Kay) Lauzze of Wellsville, Kirk (Diane) Lauzze of Chicago, IL, Peter (Pat) Lauzze of Bath, Steve (Sharon) Lauzze of Corfu, Mike Lauzze of Wellsville, Martin Lauzze of FL., and Marla (Per) Hahn of Toronto, 9 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, 2 brothers: Frank, and Richard Cardamone of Bradford, PA, 1 sister: Josephine Pantuso of Bradford, PA, and several nieces and nephews. Richard C. Ball of 289 East Dyke Street passed away Monday January 26,2004 at JonesMemorialHospital. He was born April 7,1922 in Portville to Ruthven and Ethel Coast Ball. In August of 1946 he married  The former Patricia Temple who survives him.Dick was a member of the St. Josephs Church in Scio. He was a 37 year employee of  Air Preheater and owned and operated the Harley Davidson motor cycle shop in Wellsville for 11 years. After his retirement  he worked for the Office For the Aging in Belmont. Dick served in the US Army from 1941 to 1945. He had participated in the Battle of the Bulge, earned 7 major battle stars and was awarded a bronze star for outstanding bravery. Surviving beside his wife : 3 sons R. Michael Ball of Placerville, CA. , Thomas C. Ball of Fairbanks, AK. And Stephen T. Ball of Scio ; 2 daughters Barbara E. Teter of Elma and Teresa Anne Vida of Gardnersville,NV. 8 grandchildren; He was predeceased by a brother Donald J. Ball. There will be no prior visitation. Carlos A. Starr age 93 formerly of 2396 Stannards Road passed away on Saturday February 14 at the WellsvilleManorCareCenter. He was born on May 26, 1910 in Wellsville to Raymond and Leah [Monroe] Starr. On November 16, 1935 at 2396 Stannards Road he married the former Onnalee Davidson who predeceased him on January 11, 2004. Carlos grew up in Stannards and Wellsville. He worked as a farm hand, on WPA jobs, for Sinclair Refinery and for WellsvilleCentralSchool for 34 years retiring in 1972. He was a member of the StannardsUnitedMethodistChurch. Survivors include :  his daughter Beverly[Charles] Raynor of Wellsville ; 2 grandsons Charles Raynor II and Lawrence Raynor both of Elmhurst ; Step grand daughter Maryann Raynor Maloney of Edgewater, FL. ; great grandchildren Rebecca P. Raynor of Elmhurst and Michael Maloney Jr. of Edgewater ,FL. ; A brother in law Warren Davidson of Wellsville; special nephew Robert Shelley of Wellsville; God daughters Karen Painter and Marsha Dinger both of Wellsville as well as several nieces , nephews and cousins. COOK, 90 of 4192A Bolivar Road passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at the WellsvilleManorCareCenter.  She was born on October 30, 1913 in New Britain, CT. the daughter of Louis and Katherine (Schaeffer) Baldwin.  She was married to Joseph Cook, who predeceased her in 1994.  Kay was a graduate of SyracuseUniversity and a former art teacher at AlfredAlmondCentralSchool.  She was a longtime AlleganyCounty resident until moving to Florida in 1984.  She moved back to New YorkState after the death of her husband and has been a resident of the WellsvilleManorCareCenter since 1998. Surviving her are 1 son: Kenneth Cook of Lindenhurst,NY, 3 grandchildren, and 1 brother: Dr. Robert Baldwin of Essex, CT. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by 2 children: Dr. Steven Cook and Jodi Cook. There will be no prior visitation and services will be at the convenience of the family. R. WELLS STOUT, age 77 of Wellsville,NY and Green Valley, AZ passed away peacefully at home on February 10, 2004. He was born on June 3, 1926 in Wellsville, the son of Wayne and Mildred (Wells) Stout.  On October 17, 1947 in Cuba, NY he married Jeanne Mullin, who predeceased him on March 18, 1988. He was a graduate of WellsvilleHigh School, DickinsonJunior College, and SyracuseUniversity.  He served in the US Navy during World War II.  After graduation he returned home to run Stout Insurance Agency, founded by his father.  He later merged with Brown Insurance Agency retiring from Brown & Stout in 1987. He was a former Allegany County Republican Chairman and a New York State Election Commissioner. He also served as Wellsville Town Republican Chairman; Republican County Committeeman; Administrative Assistant to Assemblyman Frank Walkley; Assistant Sergeant of Arms to the New York State Assembly; Assistant to State Chairman at National Republican Convention in 1972; Delegate at Large to Republican National Convention in 1976 and a former Allegany County Election Commissioner.  He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, a Life Member of the Wellsville Lions Club with 50 years of perfect attendance, a member of the Elks Club, and a Thirty-Second Degree Mason.  He also belonged to the American Legion, The Moose Club and the Wellsville Country Club.

He is survived by his children Susan Stout of Wellsville, Sally (William) Orband of Binghamton, Kathryn (Thomas) Kennel of Rochester, Tracy (Roy) Sherman of Columbia, TN Steven (Donna) Stout of Wellsville and by his loving companion, Bonnie O’Hara and her children Deborah O’Hara and Jack O’Hara.  He was a loving grandfather to Margaret Middaugh, Michael Middaugh, Jonathan Middaugh, Elizabeth Orband, Julie Orband, Megan Orband, Allison (John) Comeau, Geoffrey Gardner, Stephanie (Nick) Viglietta, Sara Stout, Kelly Stout, and Alice Rose Sherman, a granddaughter in-law, Rebecca Middaugh, and 7 great-grandchildren, his sisters Phyllis Stout of Ithaca, Hilda (Loyd) Thompson of Rochester, and Helen (Carl) Munro of Jackson Springs NC, and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a brother: Carlton Stout and a grandson, Thomas Middaugh. She was born March 21, 1917 in Merrill, Wisconsin the daughter of Julius and Ida (Krueger) Pagel. On November 5, 1939 in Merrill, Wisconsin she married Sherman Keesler who predeceased her on July 17, 1955. On December 26, 1959 she married Ronald H. Campbell who predeceased her on July 6, 1980. Dela was a former resident of Shinglehouse, PA and moved to Belmont in 1959. She is survived by 1 daughter, Dolores (Ray) Wetherby of Belmont, 1 son Sherman (Kathy) Keesler of Mount Morris, 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Elivala Stump of O’Fallon, Missouri and Mildred   Krueger of Merrill, Wisconsin, as well as several nieces & Nephews. She was born on August 5, 1921 in Olean, the daughter of Fred and Flora (Baker) DeGolier.  On July 19, 1947 in Olean she married Clifford “Duke” Ackley who survives. She was a 1939 graduate of OleanHigh School and a 1940 Secretarial Science graduate of the Bryant & Stratton Business Institute in Buffalo.  She was employed by the Kenmore Bakery as a bookkeeper from 1940 – 1941; Clark Brothers Co. Inc. in Olean as the secretary to the Assistant Chief Engineer from 1941 – 1943; Bell Aircraft Corporation in Niagara Falls as the secretary to the assistant Chief Test Pilot and the secretary to the Vice-President of Engineering from 1943 - 1947; and Air Preheater Corp. in Wellsville  from 1951 to 1981 as the executive secretary to George D. Braddon and secretary to Tom Woolard, President of Air Preheater. She came to Wellsville in 1947. She was a member of the TrinityLutheranChurch, a former member of the Wellsville Lioness Club and the Lady Elks. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter: Linda (Barry) Gridley of Wellsville, 3 grandchildren: Bernie, Chelsea, and Matthew Gridley of Wellsville, 2 sisters: Betty DeGolier of Clermont,FL, and Helen Simons of Milford, DE, and 1 nephew.  Joseph J. Congelli Sr., 95 of 51 Elm Street passed away on Sunday February 22, 2004 at JonesMemorialHospital in Wellsville. He was born February 14, 1909 in Wellsville the son of Carmen and Elisabetta (Serio) Congelli. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dena E. (D’Orazio) Congelli; and three children: James C.(Elizabeth) Congelli of Cornwall-on-the-Hudson, NY; Joseph J.(Terri) Congelli Jr. of Medina, WA; and Anita L. (Larry) Drake of Fishkill, NY. He has five grandchildren: Joelle M. Aguilar of Cornwall, NY; Raymond R. Drake of Virginia Beach, VA; Jason J. Drake of Suffolk,VA; Kelli L. Congelli of Seattle,WA; and Nicola J. Congelli of Wappingers Falls, NY. Additionally, Mr. Congelli is survived by two great-grandchildren: Veronica R. Drake of Virginia Beach, VA and Carson J. Aguilar of Cornwall,NY, one brother, Henry (Julie) Congelli of Belmont, and several nieces & nephews.  He was predeceased by 5 brothers, Raymond, John, Anthony, Felix and Michael Congelli and one sister Mary Ward. Although Joe was small in stature, his enormous presence in his community earned him the nickname “Big Joe.” His unprecedented leadership and dedication to helping others took many forms. He graduated from high school in 1925 as president of his class, speaking as salutatorian at the commencement. Joe built his career at Worthington Steam Turbine Corp., retiring as a Production Manager in 1974. He was a lifetime member and trustee of the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville. On April 29, 1990, the church honored him with the Saint Joseph Lay Worker Award, a celebration of his phenomenal commitment and service. For nearly 50 years, he worked to support the mission of St. Vincent DePaul, retiring as its President just before his recent 95th birthday. Joe also spent 60 years as a volunteer firefighter with the Dyke Street Engine Company, attaining the rank of Captain. For 15 years he was an active member of the Apollo Club, which was part of the Male Chorus of America. As part of the Apollo Club, Joe helped light up the stages of Broadway in New York City. He was also a member of the Benevolent & Protective Order of the Elks Lodge # 1495 from 1937 to 1958. Those who knew Joe Congelli, Sr. had the privilege of witnessing his limitless grace, soul and integrity. When looking into his sparkling eyes and reacting to his contagious joyful smile, people could not help but understand that they were in the presence of a rare, distinguished greatness. For leading the way so selflessly, for his warm heart and endless elegance, and for a life that was lived fully, intentionally and honorably, he will be held eternally in loving memory.  Friends are invited to call on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the J. February 13, 2004 at WellsvilleManorCareCenter in Wellsville.  She was born on March 29, 1922 in Angelica, NY, the daughter of Benjamin and Clara (Burdick) Wilson.  On December 1, 1942 in Olean, NY, she married Charles Saltzer who survives. She was a former resident of Tonawanda before moving back to Angelica.       She was a realtor for Hart Realty in Tonawanda.  She also attended the Episcopal Church in Angelica. She is also survived by her husband, Charles, two daughters; Suzanne (Richard) Beach of North Tonawanda and Sharon (Michael) Opera of Tonawanda, 2 granddaughters and 2 great grandsons, 3 sisters and 2 brothers. There will be no prior visitation and funeral services will be at the convenience of the family. The Rev. Dawn Barrett will preside at the funeral.


J. CHARLES SHINE – Former Allegany County Legislator, 88, of Williams Ave. died Thursday, February 19, 2004.  Born Feb. 4, 1916 in Wellsville, he was son of Timothy J. and Jennie (Murphy) Shine.  On June 6, 1945, in Tuscaloosa, Ala., he married Kathleen Lomasney, who died March 26, 1999. He was a graduate of WellsvilleHigh School, class of 1935.  He attended DuquesneUniversity and Alfred University.  Mr. Shine enlisted in the U.S. Army in November 1943 and was commissioned an officer in the 35th Infantry Division, Company 137.  He served in combat in France in 1944, where he was seriously wounded. He received the Purple Heart and the Jubilee of Liberty Medal in recognition for his service during Operation Overlord.  He was honorably discharged as a captain in 1946. He was a self-employed businessman, owning and operation Shine’s Liquor Store in Wellsville from 1946 to 1976. He was later employed by the Joyce Pipeline Corp. of Andover. He was active in the Democratic Party in AlleganyCounty and from 1970 to1990, he was an Allegany County Legislator. In 1961, with a small group of parents, Mr. Shine formed the local chapter of the Allegany Arc.  He had a love of the Pittsburgh Steelers and his years at Duquesne and cultivated a friendship with former owner Art Rooney.  With his interest in sports, he decided to generate fund-raising for the Allegany Arc with the development of a Sports Night, bringing sports personalities to Wellsville including Joe Louis, Billy Conn, Gale Sayers, “Mean” Joe Green, Alex Karras, Rocky Bleier, Reggie McKenzie, Bob Lanier, Earl Morrell, “Frenchie” Fuqua, Ray Mansfield and Mote Ledbetter.  In appreciation of his efforts, the Allegany Arc founded the “Charlie Award in 1990 in Mr. Shine’s honor to recognize people’s service to the community.  In 1995, Allegany Arc dedicated their HabilitationCenter in his name.  The Wellsville Elks Club named Mr. Shine “Man of the Year” in 1969.  The Olean Times Herald recognized his efforts with the honor of Sports Man of the Year in 1977.  Mr. Shine served on the Allegany State Park Recreation and Historic Preservation Commission from 1988 to 1999.  He was appointed by the governor to the Board of Visitors of J.N. Adams Developmental Center, serving on the board for many years.  He was a life-long member of Immaculate Conception Church.  He was also a member of American Legion Post 703, Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 2530, BPOE 1945, St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Knights of Columbus.  Surviving are six children, Timothy (Molly) Shine of Fairport, Gloria (David) Mack of Brockport, Kathleen Shine of Willoughby, Ohio, James Shine of Wellsville, David (Theresa) Shine of Wickliffe, Ohio and Eileen (Joseph) Schaffner of Bolivar; a brother in law, Joseph Quigley of Duluth, Minn.; three nephews, James Quigley and Thomas (Robin) Quigley both of Duluth, and Joseph (Patti) Quigley of Pittsburgh, PA., 10 grandchildren and many cousins.    He was predeceased by a brother, William Richard; and two sisters in law, Winifred Lange and Eileen Quigley. Monica M. Moore of Wellsville passed away on Saturday March 13, 2004 at the Wellsville Manor Health Care Center. She was born in England, she and her parents, Guy and Ethel Waterhouse Moore, migrated to the United States in 1910. Monica developed a love of the sea while working at Dun & Bradstreet in Boston. She enjoyed vacationing in Maine during those years. She returned to Wellsville in the 1950’s to help care for her ailing mother and lived for many years on State Street. After her parent’s deaths she moved to Railroad Avenue and could be seen riding her bicycle around town to well into her 80s. She was employed by Jones Memorial Hospital for several years.Monica is survived by 2 nephews, Robert D.[Hope] Moore of Cockeysville, MD., and their 2 children and 2 grandchildren: and William C. Moore of Elkton,MD and son and 4 grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister in law, Mary Moore of Forney, TX., as well as 3 cousins Alfred  Kenneth Moore , Ivon Ronald Moore and Philip Douglas Moore all of whom reside in England. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother Neville C. Moore. There will be no prior visitation and a memorial service will be held at a future date.  DEBORAH M. ALLEN 50, of 340 S. Main Street passed away at home on Sunday March 21, 2004. She was born December 27, 1953 in Wellsville the daughter of Richard and Dawn (Gorton) Plaisted. On July 2, 1972 in Whitesville she married Eugene Allen who survives. Deborah was raised in Whitesville and had lived in Germany for 8 years before moving to Wellsville. She was a graduate of WhitesvilleHigh School, was a former employee of K-Mart in Wellsville and a former member of the Alma Fire Department.Other survivors include a son, Cory E. Allen and his fiancée Melissa Davis of Rochester, a brother, Jay (Bonnie) Plaisted of Arkport as well as several aunts & uncles and nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, April L. JOHN R. BALDWIN, 80 of 319 Scott Ave. passed away on March 22, 2004 at home with his family.  He was born on September 29, 1923 at the Baldwin homestead on Baldwin Road in Wellsville, the son of William and Margaret (Padden) Baldwin.  On September 8, 1951 in Wellsville he married Patricia A. Dennis who predeceased him on August 22, 1987.  He attended ProctorDistrictSchool and WellsvilleHigh School, but 6 months before his high school graduation, he enlisted in the US Army to serve in World War II. On September 22, 2001 he honored by and graduated from WellsvilleHigh School.  In the Army, he reached the rank of Staff Sergeant with the 299th engineers 51st Battalion. He fought at Omaha Beach on D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge, receiving the Jubilee Medal, the Purple Heart, Distinguished Unit Badge, American Service Medal; The European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with Bronze Arrowhead, Good Conduct Medal, and the Conspicuous Service Medal to honor veterans of New York State.  He had apprenticed with Kenneth Stebbins Plumbing & Heating and later he began John R. Baldwin Plumbing & Heating which he operated for over 50 years in Wellsville. John was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville, a life member of: the B.P.O.E. #1495 Wellsville, the Wellsville Moose Lodge #601, the Morrison Hayes Post #702 American Legion, and the Frank B. Church Post # 2530 V.F.W and was a former member of the Plumbing and Heating Contractor’s Local 13. He was active with Little League Baseball, was one of the original organizers of the Allegany County ARC, was a promoter of the ImmaculateConceptionSchool sports banquet in the 70’s, received an outstanding fund raiser award from the Literacy Volunteers of Allegany County and loved gardening.  A devoted father and loving grandfather, John is survived by 1 son: John G. BARRY LEE ROHRABACHER, 58 of 120 Maple Avenue passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at JonesMemorialHospital.  He was born June 19, 1945 in Wellsville the son of Maynard and Dorothy (Minard) Rohrabacher.  He was a life long resident of Wellsville.  He graduated from WellsvilleHigh School in 1963.  He joined the US Navy in 1964 and served until 1968.  At one time he was employed by the Village ofAndover, overseeing the public utilities.  He was also employed as a painter for several local painting contractors.  He was a member of the Morrison Hayes Post #702 of the American Legion, the Wellsville Moose Lodge #601, and the Frank B. Church Post # 2530 of the V.F.W. in Wellsville.Barry is survived by 1 son: Eric Perry serving with the U.S. Army, 1 grandson: Blayne Perry in Ohio, 1 brother: Brent (Pamela) Rohrabacher, 2 sisters: Susan (Allen) Hunt of Petrolia, Marla Tronetti of Anthem, AZ, a dear friend and cousin David Sweet of Wellsville, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the J.W.  HELEN LEILOUS, 97 of Belmont passed away on March 26, 2004 at the WellsvilleManorCareCenter. She was a former resident of 1 Norton Street and for 10 years she lived in Dickerson’s Rest Home. She was born February 17,1907 in Belfast to Harry and Harriet Tingley Chalker. In Belfast in 1929 she married Harold “Red” Leilous who predeceased her on April 20,1996. Helen Attended Olean Business Institute and worked as a bookkeeper for her husband in East Side Garage. She was a member of the St. Philips Church in Belmont and was a 70 year member of the M. Eva Williams Chapter #192 O.E.S. of Belmont. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed to bake. Survivors include a Son : William{Beverly}Leilous of Wellsville ; 3 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. WALTER E. SCOTT, 77 of 5722 Church Road passed away on Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at Olean GeneralHospital.  He was born on April 11, 1926 in Belvidere, NY the son of Edward and Rose (Maston) Scott. On December 22, 1951 he married Janice Bundy who survives. Walter was a lifelong resident of Belvidere.   He served in the US Army during World War II, earning a purple heart.  He was employed by the block factory in Belvidere, the Friendship Foundry, and retired from Bitumens in 1987.  He loved the outdoors, including hunting and fishing.  Besides his wife, he is survived by 2 sons: Danny Scott of Belmont, Kevin (Rose) Scott of Belmont, 2 daughters: Debbie (John) Osterhout of Belmont, Donna Flores of Belmont, 12 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 3 brothers: Donny Scott of Bolivar, Kenny Scott of Richburg, Jack Scott of Black Creek, 2 sisters: Clara Harris of Angelica, Pearl Gelser of Belmont, and several nieces and nephews. EDWARD SAILER, 72 of Sanibel, FL. passed away Friday, April 2, 2004 in Sanibel,FL.   He was born June 9, 1931 in Brooklyn, NY the son of Eugene and Hilda (Strasse) Sailer. On June 12, 1954 in Wellsville,NY he married Joan Esther Jacobs, who predeceased him March 19, 2003. Ed grew up in Long Island, NY.  He attended AlfredUniversity; where he met his future wife be Joan Jacobs, and graduated with a degree in Ceramic Engineering.  He was a member of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity. He spent the greater part of his working life in WappingersFalls employed by IBM.  In the early 1970’s he earned a masters degree in Business Administration from Union college.  In 1980 he moved with his family to Paris, France where he enjoyed travel, meeting new people, and the French culture.  He retired from IBM shortly after returning to the United States and moved to Sanibel, FL. There he began a very successful second career in real estate and became well known in the community.  His passions were spending time with his family and friends, traveling, and playing racquetball.  Ed will be missed by his family and friends and will be remembered for his powerful personality, positive attitude, and generous nature.  Survivors include 1 son: Richard Sailer of Florida; 2 daughters: Linda (Kenneth) Enders of Texas and New York, and Janet (Heico) Thorn of Florida; 4 grandchildren: Kory and Kyra Enders; and Chelsea and Nicholas Thorn, 2 nieces: Betty Rector and Carol Throm; and 1 nephew: William Throm.In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by 1 sister: Irma Throm. SMITH, 20 of 3174 Vossler Road passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at Jones Memorial Hospital.  He was born August 5, 1983 in Wellsville the son of Craig and Leisha (Bogle) Smith.  Nick was a life long resident of Wellsville, and attended WellsvilleHigh School. He was employed by L.C. Joseph Jerome Tobin, 87 of Manor Hills passed away on Thursday April 22, 2004 at Jones Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. He was born Sept. 15, 1916 in Yonkers, NY,  the son of Thomas Michael and Agnes Crowley Tobin. On Jan 7, 1946 in St. Patrick’s Cathedral he married Dorothy Gettig who pre-deceased him in 1987.Joe was a 1934 graduate of AllHallowsHigh School in New York City. He attended NiagaraUniversity and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Catholic University of America in Washington, DC in 1938.  He received his Masters of Arts in Education from Columbia University in 1941. Although legally blind in one eye since childhood, he outwitted the Army doctors on the eye test and enlisted in the United States Army in July, 1942. He served in the Third Army, XX Corp, 135th Combat Engineers and in the 94th Infantry Division.  From July 1944 to April 1945 he served in the European Theater in France and in Germany. He was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action during the Battle for Metz in Nov. 1944. He was also awarded the Bronze Star and Good Conduct Medal. Joe worked as an Oiler for the Poirier McClain Construction Co. in Geneva, NY and as Machine Maintenance Foreman for Walsh Driscoll Co. in Port of Spain, Trinidad. He was a Business Representative for Consolidated Edison, Westchester County, NY for 30 years retiring in 1978.  He loved gardening and music and was always singing while he worked. He was an avid reader and did extensive research in Russian History.  Joe was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Scio, NY. He was a fifty-three year member of the American Legion, last affiliated with the Herbert DeLong Post 808 Belmont, NY. In addition to his parents and wife, Joe was pre-deceased by four brothers: Hon. John E. Tobin, Francis P. Tobin, William A. Tobin and Thomas M. Tobin, Jr. Joe is survived by daughter Rusty Tobin of Belmont, NY, son Joseph  Tobin Jr. and his wife Linda of Uniontown, Ohio, and daughter Teresa Tobin and her husband Gary Cohen of Metuchen, NJ; his grandchildren Charles Cohen and Rebecca Erickson of Edison, NJ, Sarah Cohen and Joseph Cohen of Metuchen, NJ; sisters-in-law Virginia Tobin Clark of Florida and Lois Tobin, family friend Jackie Manis of Belmont and numerous nieces and nephews. WILLIAM WENTWORTH NAGLE, 81 of 251 N. Main Street passed away at home on Thursday April 22, 2004. He was born July 13, 1922 in Wellsville, the son of William Joseph and Irene (Wentworth) Nagle. On October 15, 1947 in Bolivar he married Maureen Dougherty who survives. Bill was a 1939 graduate of BolivarHigh School, a decorated veteran of WW II serving with the US Navy as a TM2C Torpedo Man 2nd Class on the A. W. Grant a DD649 Destroyer. He later attended LycomingCollege in Williamsport, PA. He was formerly employed by E. I. Dupont in Bradford, PA as a shooter and later by John C. Bradley Oil Producer. In June of 1950 he began his career with the United States Postal Service in Bolivar where he was named Postmaster on March 29, 1975. He became Postmaster in Wellsville on February 12, 1977 and retired August 29, 1980. He was a member of the Wellsville Elks Lodge # 1495 in Wellsville, the Emerald Hook and Ladder Company # 3 in Wellsville, was a life member of the Bolivar Fire Department, life member of the Frank B. Church Post 2530 VFW Wellsville, Member and Past Commander of the American Legion Post # 772 in Bolivar, Past Allegany County Commander of the American Legion, the Morrison Hayes Post # 702 Sons of American Legion in Wellsville, the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville and was a Past President of the St. Mary’s Church Altar & Rosary Society in Bolivar.Surviving in addition to his wife are 4 daughters, Crelly Ann Nagle of Atlanta, GA, Mary John Nagle of Buffalo, Deirdre (Thomas) McElroy of Port Royal, PA and Maureen (Gary) Pickett of Atlanta, GA. THEROLD “TERRY” COOK, 86 of the Andover Road passed away on Saturday, April 24, 2004 at JonesMemorialHospital.  He was born on December 24, 1917 in Duke Center, PA the son of LaVern F. and Eva (Keiser) Cook. He married Marguerite “Peg” Dates who predeceased him on January 29, 2000.  He started the Swingsters Orchestra in Wellsville.  From 1938 until his death, he owned and operated Cook’s  Tire and Automotive.  He built and owned Cook’s Motel for 10 years, was a local U-Haul dealer for over 50 years, and owned Cook’s Storage.  He loved both playing and listening to music and played the piano until his death. Terry was also a charter member of the Wellsville Lions Club, which was started in 1942.  He was active until his military service in the US Army as he was in Europe during the later part of World War II.  He was also in the service after the war stationed in Germany.  He returned to Wellsville and continued his membership with the Wellsville Lions Club. He will be known for his dedication to service with chairmanship of such committees as club history, citizenship committee, and music and songs committee for the Lions Minstrel Shows, which he actively performed in over 55 shows.  He is best known as an accomplished piano player for meetings and playing God Bless America and “In Our Den” to close out Lion meetings and Minstrel shows.  He also sponsored 2 members of the Lions club of Wellsville.  He has had 23 years of perfect attendance, and was awarded Life Member in 1989.  In 1995 he was awarded the highest honor in Lions International and the Wellsville Lions Club, the Melvin Jones Fellow.  Terry enjoyed the Lions Club and enjoyed the friendship and most of all the service to a community he loved. He was also a member of the Wellsville Moose Lodge #601, Wellsville Masonic Lodge #230 F & AM and the First United Methodist Church in Wellsville to whom he donated money for an air conditioning system. Terry is survived by 1 sister: June (James) Williams of Ocala, FL; 1 niece: Sandra (David) Goodsell of Wellsville; 1 nephew: Jerry (Alice) Carpenter of Wellsville; 2 grandchildren: Michele D. Gebhart of Colorado, Jason Hartman of Oklahoma City, OK; 2 step grandchildren: Jennifer Ludden, Michael Ludden Jr.; and a special friend Danny Coats of Wellsville.  In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his daughter: Judy Hartman. She was first married to James Lewis Twombly in 1932 and later married Andrew J. Bradley who predeceased her in 1963.  She was employed as a beautician in Scarsdale,NY for many years and was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville. Marietta is survived by 1 son: James (Nancy) Twombly of Melbourne, FL; 1 daughter: Patricia (Tom) James of Wellsville, 7 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by 2 grandsons: Robert and James Holliday; 1 great grandson: Chad Graham; and 2 brothers: James E. DORIS L. SANFORD, 80 of 8 Trianna Street passed away Saturday May 1, 2004 at her home. She was born January 4, 1924 in Belmont, the daughter of Parker J. and Ada (Lanphear) Lewis. She was first married February 2, 1947 to Harold A. Lowe who predeceased her on March 13, 1954. In 1972 she married Leroy Sanford who predeceased her on November 17, 1974.  Doris was a graduate of Belmont High School and had attended business school in Buffalo.She was a secretary and bookkeeper in the Belmont area for many years. She had been employed at the Allegany County Clerk’s Office and had served as Belmont Village Clerk. In later years, she worker for Allegany County BOCES in child care. She was a member of the Herbert DeLong Post 808 American Legion Auxiliary, the Belmont Fire Department Auxiliary and was a Gold Star Mother. She is survived by 1 daughter; Deborah (John) Biancuzzo of Belmont, 2 sons; Steven Lowe of Belmont and David Lowe of Boston, MA, 8 Grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and 2 nieces. In addition to her husbands she was predeceased by a daughter; Cathryn Lowe Ingalls on October 5, 1975 and her sister; Edith L. Olmstead on October 19, 2002. At Doris’s request there will be no prior visitation and a private memorial service will be held at a later date. John F. ”Whiff” Sobek of 4192B Bolivar Road passed away on Tuesday May 4, 2004. He was born on November 7, 1943 in Wellsville to Steven and Christine DeVore Sobek. He was a life long resident of Wellsville where he graduated from High School. Whiff worked for many years at Dresser Rand in Wellsville and ran the Purple Penguin Sports Card Shop. He was a member of the BrooksideWesleyanChurch and a former member of the Moose Lodge. Whiff’s hobbies included cooking, horse shoes, bowling , billiards and card games. His true love was sports. He enjoyed youth, high school, college and pro sports. Whiff volunteered his time for many years as the official score keeper for many youth, high school and community teams. Because of dedicated friends, the season nor weather mattered he was always at the game. His knowledge of sports was vast, but his favorite was the games of the Wellsville PONY League teams at Tullar Field. Survivors include a brother James [Carol] Sobek of Indianapolis, Indiana  ; aunts, uncles and cousins ; Besides his parents he predeceased by his brother Joel Sobek. THOMAS B. SLAWSON, 67 of 3371A Hallsport Road passed away Thursday, May 13, 2004 at JonesMemorialHospital.  He was born August 11, 1936 in Genesee, PA the son of Bernard and Emma (Robbins) Slawson. In 1997 in Hallsport he married Anna Valdez who survives.  Thomas was a graduate of GeneseeHigh School.  He was employed by Dresser Rand Corp. in Wellsville for 34 years retiring in 1997, after which he worked security for Dresser Rand.  He served as a negotiator for the International Association of Machinists Moore Lodge # 1580 and was a member of the Frank B. Church Post #2530 V.F.W. in Wellsville.   Thomas will be remembered for his love of his many friends and nature.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by 1 daughter: Denise (Les) Francus of Wellsville; 2 sons: Thomas (Marilyn) Slawson of Genesee, PA and David Slawson of Florida; 3 stepdaughters: Teresa (Jay) Slawson of Whitesville, LaFrance Simons of Sulphur, OK, Felicia Shutt of Davis, OK; 1 stepson: Geronmo Carter of  Carlyle, IL; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 brother: Jack Slawson of Wellsville; and several nieces and nephews He was predeceased by his parents and 1 brother: Robert Slawson. There will be no prior visitation and a memorial service will be scheduled for a later date. The family suggests memorials to the SPCAServingAlleganyCounty. LINCOLN E. “Link” BURTON 86 of 3109 Madison Hill passed away on Tuesday May 25, 2004 at home surrounded by his family. He was born June 27, 1917 in Coudersport, PA the son of David and Dorothy (Owens) Burton. On August 31, 1937 in Richburg he married M. June Atkinson who predeceased him on June 3, 1987. Link was first employed with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and later was a crane operator for the L. C. Whitford Company in Wellsville for 44 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Union Local 832B, a life member of the Genesee Hose Company # 5 and a 20 year member of the New York Steam Engine Association Inc. He was an avid bowler for the Wellsville Travel Service and enjoyed hunting & fishing. He was a 6:00 am patron of the Texas Hot for over 50 years and was known in the area for his cement work.He is survived by 2 sons: Richard E. Burton and Robert W. (Patricia) Burton both of Wellsville. A daughter Ruth (Donald) Richmond of Scio, 10 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren, a brother; Paul Burton of Hilton and several nieces & nephews. He was predeceased, in addition to his wife by a daughter Patricia M. Allen on May 25, 1995, a daughter in law; Jill R. Burton on March 19, 2004, 2 brothers; Frank O. Laurie Ann Wesche Mickle
40, of 3202 Madison Hill passed away on Sunday May 30, 2004 at JonesMemorialHospital with family at her side. She was born October 23, 1963 in Wellsville, the daughter of Ernest and Eleanor (Sprague) Wesche. On November 21, 1981 in Wellsville she married James Mickle who survives. Laurie had been employed as a caregiver and was a manager of the former Lester Shoe Store in Wellsville. She later worked at Hamilton’s, Fisher’s Pharmacy and the ImmaculateConceptionNursery School. She is a member of the ImmaculateConceptionChurch, was an active volunteer for the Wellsville Chamber of Commerce as the Christmas Open House Fireworks Chairman and had served as the President of the ImmaculateConceptionHomeSchool Association. She enjoyed swimming, bike riding and was a NASCAR fan. She loved helping people and being with her family and friends. Surviving in addition to her husband Jim, is a son George Mickle of Wellsville, her mother, Eleanor Wesche of Wellsville, 4 brothers, Thomas (Arlene) Wesche, Lanny (Cheryl) Wesche, William (Nichole) Wesche all of Wellsville and Denny (Tina) Wesche of Colorado Springs, CO. 1 sister, Donna (Wayne) Gloff of Castile, her Mother in law, Patricia Mickle of Wellsville, Brother in law Mike (Jackie) Mickle of Wellsville as well as several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. GLENN ARTHUR COOK, 81 formerly of the Hallsport Road, passed away on Saturday May 29th at JonesMemorialHospital. He was born January 15, 1923 in Betula, PA the son of Chester and Ruth (Higby) Cook. He attended school in Oswayo and Shinglehouse and on August 6, 1945 in Millport,PA he married Luella Fanton, who predeceased him on November 6, 1997. Glenn was a veteran of WW II, entering the U.S. Army in 1942 where he served with the 324th Infantry 44th Division in the European Theater of Operation until 1945. He had received several medals including the Purple Heart.He was first employed in Olean and Niagara Falls until 1953, when he moved to Wellsville and worked for Otis Eastern and Joyce Western Corporation. In 1955 he began his 27 year career with Air Preheater Company, retiring in 1982.Glenn had resided at 32 Rochambeau Avenue in Andover for the past 2 years. He enjoyed bowling with the senior citizens, traveling and camping. He had toured 47 states and 6 countries and was a member of the Morrison Hayes American Legion Post # 702 in Wellsville.He is survived by 3 sons, Wade (Sharon) Cook of Belmont, John (Linda) Cook of Wellsville, Karl Cook of Brockport, 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren, a sister, Genevieve (Cliff) Evingham of Shinglehouse, PA as well as several nieces & nephews. REX S. “BUDDY” FULLAM JR , 84 of Wellsville passed away Monday, May 31, 2004 at the Buffalo VA Hospital following a lengthy illness.  He was born February 2, 1920 in Montpelier, VT, the son of Rex A. and Mary (Tewksbury) Fullam. He owned and operated three successful businesses in Wellsville; Rex Photo Service, Rex Advertising, and Rex Office Supply. During WWII, he served in the Army, earning the Bronze Star for bravery. Rex attended the Yorks corners Mennonite Church. Rex is survived by his wife of 62 years, Irene; 4 sons: Rex III (Donna) of Stony Creek, NY; Roger of Wellsville; Randall (Wendy) of Ohio; Robin (Madelene) of Harrisville, NY; 2 daughters: Roxanne (Henry) Jedraszczak and Rena (Greg) Coryell of Florida; a brother: Everett of Florida; 23 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.  He will forever be remembered as “Buddy-Buddy” to his grandchildren and all his “little friends”.  He was predeceased by a son: Robert, a grandson: Michael, and a sister: Virginia Robertson.  Friends are invited to call on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the J.W. Funk Sr. and in 1967 she married Alfred E. Peckham who predeceased her in 1992.  She was a WellsvilleHigh School graduate, and was employed as a secretary for the Allegany County Cooperative Extension in Belmont for many years.  She was a member of Professional Secretaries International and AARP.  She is survived by 2 sons: Martin J. (Dee) Funk Jr. of Polacca, AZ; Victor L. (Gail) Funk of Belmont; 2 daughters: Sandra K. (Richard) Ayers of Victor, NY; Wanda R. (Ken) Hollamby of Olean; 11 grandchildren and several great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Gladys Saunders of Olean; Ruth Saunders of Friendship; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband, Katherine was predeceased by 1 brother: Carlos Perry, and 2 sisters: Frances Western and Pearl Perry. MURPHY, 39 of 137 Scott Ave. passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 12, 2004 at home.  She was born October 1, 1964 in Bronx, NY the loving daughter of James and Patricia (Ryan) Murphy.  She grew up in Little Ferry, NJ and was a 1982 graduate of RidgefieldParkHigh School. She moved to Andover,NY in 1985 where her maternal grandparents Angelo “Smiley” and Sylvia (Ostrander) D’Ariano reside.  She moved to Wellsville in 1990 where she lived until her untimely death.  Denise was a 1994 graduate of the State University of New York at Alfred with an Associate Degree in Human Services. She had been employed at the Book Store, Byrne Dairy, Andover A+, and Manor Hills in Wellsville.  She volunteered at the Christian Temple Soup Kitchen and JonesMemorialHospital.  She was an avid reader and movie watcher, she loved flowers, walking, listening to rock-n-roll, and attending concerts. She loved laughter and people, especially her family, friends, and anyone in need.  She had a passion for the study of Domestic Violence, she had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone.  Her beautiful smile lit up the room; her voice and laughter echoed “Now the party can begin!”  She left a lasting impression on all those she came in contact with.  She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all.In addition to her parents and maternal grandparents, Denise is survived by a sister: Tara Murphy of Clifton, NJ; a brother: Neil Murphy of Hackensack,NJ; her paternal grandparents: Alfred and Rose Marie (Aloi) Murphy of Brooklyn, NY; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.She was predeceased by a maternal grandfather: Arnold Ryan, a maternal aunt: Mary Catherine Ryan, a maternal Uncle: David Ryan, her best friend and cousin: Yvonne (Ryan) Pierce, and a paternal aunt: Rose Marie (Murphy) Riccio.  There will be no prior visitation, and a memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 18, 2004 at 11:00 am in Immaculate Conception Church, Wellsville with Rev. FLEISCHMAN, 78 of 3490 Rauber Hill passed away Thursday, June 17, 2004 at home.  She was born on April 12, 1926 in Wellsville, the daughter of Lloyd and Edna (Griggs) Hanchett.  On September 21, 1946 in Wellsville she married Richard Fleischman, who predeceased her in 1990. After high school, Lois was employed by the Sinclair Refinery and later by Rockwell Brothers until retiring in 1980.  For many years she was known for cake baking for all occasions. She was a member of the TrinityLutheranChurch and a member of the Wellsville Fireman’s Auxiliary for over 50 years.  She was also an active member of the Scio Senior Sunshine Club with which she traveled on several trips. Lois is survived by a son: John Fleischman of Scio; 2 daughters: Sharon (Jerry) Falletta of Groton, NY; Susan (Ronald) Thomas of Wellsville; 5 grandchildren; a sister: Jean Patrick of Andover; several nieces and nephews; and a loving companion: Robert J.
