GLENN ARTHUR COOK, 81 formerly of the Hallsport Road, passed away on Saturday May 29th at Jones Memorial Hospital. He was born January 15, 1923 in Betula, PA the son of Chester and Ruth (Higby) Cook. He attended school in Oswayo and Shinglehouse and on August 6, 1945 in Millport, PA he married Luella Fanton, who predeceased him on November 6, 1997.
Glenn was a veteran of WW II, entering the U.S. Army in 1942 where he served with the 324th Infantry 44th Division in the European Theater of Operation until 1945. He had received several medals including the Purple Heart.
He was first employed in Olean and Niagara Falls until 1953, when he moved to Wellsville and worked for Otis Eastern and Joyce Western Corporation. In 1955 he began his 27 year career with Air Preheater Company, retiring in 1982.
Glenn had resided at 32 Rochambeau Avenue in Andover for the past 2 years. He enjoyed bowling with the senior citizens, traveling and camping. He had toured 47 states and 6 countries and was a member of the Morrison Hayes American Legion Post # 702 in Wellsville.
He is survived by 3 sons, Wade (Sharon) Cook of Belmont, John (Linda) Cook of Wellsville, Karl Cook of Brockport, 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren, a sister, Genevieve (Cliff) Evingham of Shinglehouse, PA as well as several nieces & nephews.
Friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in Wellsville. The funeral will be Thursday June 3rd at 10:30 am in the funeral home, with Rev. Ralph Eastlack presiding. Burial with military honors will be in Stannards Cemetery and memorial suggestions include the Andover Ambulance Corps or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
