Helen Agnes Connor of Avoca entered eternal rest surrounded by loving family and her wonderful caretakers at Taylor Health Center in Bath on November 19, 2003. Helen was born in Scio on May 18, 1920 the daughter of the late Terrence and Mary Lewis O’Brien.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years James W. Connor and their children Michael[Colleen[Connor of Dover, OH.; Reverend Patrick Connor of Elmira ; Brian[Belinda]Connor of Cohocton and daughter in law Donna [Mark] Connor of Florida; grandchildren: Jessica[Scott[Crammer of Michigan; Matthew, Andrew and Thomas Connor of Dover, OH. ; Charles[Pam Cragg] and Sean Connor of Cohocton. ; Sisters Rachel McGarrity of Derby and Bess Mulligan of Belmont; brother Frank O’Brien of Scio and a sister in law Gert O’Brien of Wellsville; in addition to her grandchildren she had many nieces and nephews that loved her very much. Helen was predeceased by her son Mark Connor; sisters Josephine Jago and Alice Keenan ; and brother Matthew O’Brien ; her mother in law Anna [Nana] Dentlinger Connor at age 101 to whom she was very dedicated to.
Before her sickness of Alzheimer’s disease Helen was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Bath and a member of the choir, St. James Hospital Gift Shop in Hornell and St. James Hospital Auxiliary Ladies Auxiliary and Meals on Wheels in Hornell. She not only had many friends in the area but in Lackawanna where she had been a member of the Choir of Our Lady of Victory Basilica. Helen was noted for her beautiful singing voice, sense of humor, lemon meringue pie, coleslaw, manhattans and card games. Helen was a beautiful woman who spread happiness and warmth everywhere she went and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
The family will receive friends at St. Joseph’s Church in Scio from 10 to 11am on Monday November 24th . A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11am with her son Father Patrick Connor presiding. A private burial will held at a later date at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Ss Peter and Paul Parish Center Building Fund, 161 High Street, Elmira, NY. 14901. Arrangements are under the direction of the J.W.Embser Sons F.H. in Wellsville.
