MARY PATRICIA SCHOENHERR – LOCAL ARTIST AND FORMER ART TEACHER.

Mary Patricia (Pat) Schoenherr, 79, of 8 Meadowbrook Court Died Sunday December 28, 2003 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center following a long illness. She was born July 28, 1924 in Wellsville, the daughter of Frank and Margaret (Graham) Wall. On July 18, 1953 in Wellsville she married Karl J. Schoenherr, who survives. She and Karl celebrated their 50th.wedding anniversary this year.

Pat was a graduate of the Immaculate Conception School and a 1944 graduate of Wellsville Central School. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Richmond Professional Institute of the College of William and Mary in Richmond, VA. She also did graduate studies at Buffalo State, University of Buffalo and Geneseo State earning a Masters Degree in Art Education. She was employed as an art teacher in Addison, Richburg, Scio and the Immaculate Conception Schools. While at Scio Central School, she was instrumental in starting the art department.

She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Altar and Rosary Society, Wellsville Art Association, Business and Professional Woman’s Club, American Association of University Women, National Wood Carvers Association, South towns Wood Carvers Association of Buffalo and the Niagara Wood Carvers Association of Buffalo.

She was a self taught relief wood carver, exhibiting throughout New York, Pennsylvania and Ontario, Canada, including the Allentown Art Festival in Buffalo. In 1974 she donated a wood carving depicting all the arts to the David A. Howe Library in memory of her Mother, who was a long time librarian in the 40’s and who had passed away in the spring of 1974.

Surviving in addition to her husband Karl, is one son, Mark of Wellsville, 3 grandchildren; Kelly, Ben and Heather, 4 great grandchildren; Dawson, Dillon, Hayleigh and Xander and several cousins; Martha Fisher of Wellsville, Georgia Sparler and Kathleen Ballestine, both of York, PA and Franny Duke of Mason Michigan.

Friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in Wellsville. Services will begin on Wednesday December 31, 2003 at 10:30 am with a prayer at the funeral home, followed be a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville. Rev. Dennis Wolf will be celebrant, interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wellsville and memorial suggestion in lieu of flowers include the Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps, the Immaculate Conception School or to Our Lady of Victory Home in Lackawanna, NY.
