Oletha S. Reed, 88 formerly of 10 Whitney Avenue passed away on Thursday January 1, 2004 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center.  She was born on September 15, 1915 in the town of Amity, the daughter of LaRue and Ruth (Nye) Sears.  On May 29, 1941 in the town of Amity she married Harold A. Reed who predeceased her on September 29, 1999.  

Oletha was a former 58 year resident of Friendship, was a 1933 graduate of Belmont High School and a 1936 graduate of the Geneseo Normal School.  She taught for 5 years in country schools including Hallsport, Petrolia, and Allentown and later substituted in the Friendship School system.  She was a member of the United Church of Friendship where she was a dedicated Sunday school teacher.  She was a former and very active member of the Musical and Literary Club of Friendship, the Friendship Free Library Board of Trustees and the Mount Hope Cemetery Board.  She was also a former member of the Christmas Tree Farmers Association of New York, the National Christmas Tree Growers Association and the Allegany County Home Bureau.

 She is survived by 1 son: Gordon (Sandra) Reed of Erie, PA, 1 daughter: Carole (Allen) Mohilewsky of Belmont, 1 grandson: Reed (Lisa) Mohilewsky of Kenmore, 1 granddaughter: Robin Mohilewsky of Las Angeles, CA, 1 great granddaughter: Anastasia Mohilewsky of Kenmore, several nieces, nephews, cousins and a sister in law; Clara Reed Lynch of East Aurora.

Friends are invited to call on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00pm at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in Belmont.  The funeral service will be Monday January 5, 2004 at 11:00am at the United Church of Friendship with Rev. Kirk Kirch and Rev. Cornelius DeGroat presiding.  Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Friendship.  Memorial suggestions include the United Church of Friendship or the Friendship Free Library.
