ROBERT C. HAYES, 83, of 79 Early Street passed away Saturday, January 24, 2004 at Jones Memorial Hospital.  He was born on June 6, 1920 in Wellsville, the son of Edmond "Mike" and Helen (Leggitt) Hayes.   

Robert was a life long resident of Wellsville. He served in the US Marine Corps in the European Theater of Operation from 1941 to 1945 on the heavy cruiser the USS Tuscalusa.  He was a self employed contractor and a member of the Lynch Burkett Post 397 of the American Legion in Andover. 

He is survived by a special friend: Mary O’Donnell of Wellsville and her family: Jean and Mickey Baker of Wellsville, Pat O’Donnell of Andover, and their families. 

Friends are invited to call on Tuesday, January 27, 2004 at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in Wellsville from 9:30 to 10:30 am, followed by an 11:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville with Rev. Dennis Wolf as celebrant.  Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wellsville.  Memorial suggestions include the Immaculate Conception Church Memorial Fund.
